Ingredietns:
- Minapappu/Black gram/Urad dal- 2 cups(your cup may be any type,use only one type of cup for the whole recipe)
- Shanagapappu/Bengal gram-1 cup
- Dhaniyalu/Coriander seeds-1 cup
- Dhaniya powder/Coriander powder-1/2 cup(You can use 1 and half cup of Dhaniya/Coriander powder instead of Dhaniyalu/coriander seeds)
- Jeelakara/Cumin seeds-1/2 cup
- Dry red chillis- 3/according to taste (3 is for medium spicy)
- Curry leaves-minimum 1 cup.(more than 1 cup also gives good taste)
- Garlic cloves-2 (optional)
- Ginger- small piece (optional)
- Salt 2/3 tbs or according to the taste
- Turmeric powder-1/4th tbsp (optional)
- Oats- 3/4th cup(dry roast for just 3 or 5 minutes)
- Take a pan and put it on stove,get it warm then add 2 tbs oil and let it warm,
- Now drop red chillies, stir them with wooden spatula.Wait for 30 seconds until they sound crispy and turns into thick red in color,
- Now add shanagapappu/Bengal gram stir the lintels and wait for 60 sec until they turn in to light brown ,
- Add Curry leaves,stir it and wait for 30 sec,
- Add Minapapappu/Black gram,stir it and wait for 60 sec until they turn into light brown,
- Add Dhaniyalu/Coriander seeds , stir it and wait for 30 sec until they turn into light brown,
- Add Jeelakara/Cumin seeds, stir it and wait for 30 sec,
- Put your stove flame in low..
- Stir all of the lentils until they turn into golden brown make sure you should not burn them.
- Put all the lentils in a separate wide plate after lentils come to room temperature
- Add them to a blender or mixer then add salt it's better to add minimum salt first after tasting it you can add according to your taste.
- Now just blend it until it becomes soft or crunchy.
- I like to blend it soft because kids can eat nicely without complaint.
- Now this is the common basic type of karampodi/spicy powder/curry powder.It goes very well with any type of breakfast like I said in my posts like
"Tomato Bhath/Tomate Bhath/Takkali Bhath/Tamatar Bhath/Tomyato Bhath- easiest breakfast or snack..".
Variation for this Karampodi/spicy powder/curry powder is
Oatskarampodi/Spicy oats powder/Oatscurrypowder.
Method:
- dry roast oats - take a pan and put 3/4th cup oats,roast for 3 minutes.
- Add to the basic Karampodi/basic spicy powder blender/mixer then again grind it until soft powder.
- if you want you can add salt.
- Spicy Oats powder is ready.
- You can have this with Hot rice or any breakfast and also bread in combination of Ghee/clarified butter.
Health tip:
Yum Yum spicy Oats powder is good for health.It has lot of fiber.
This spicy oats powder is good diet for women after delivery.
It helps them to produce milk and reduce pains.
Cooking Tip:
While making any recipe if you feel that you put more salt /more mirchi/spice accidentally.. don't worry about your recipe.
